International Students

The GMVS community includes students from around the world.  Generally, students who have not studied in English before join us for a minimum of 2 years before earning their GMVS diploma. Some students come for a shorter time to focus on athletics and improve their conversational English.  In addition to English as a Second Language classes, we provide a network of support that may include individual tutoring, customized requirements for classes as students develop their academic English skills, and support for students preparing for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam. 

International students who plan to go on to higher education in English generally take the TOEFL exam in addition to fulfilling other application requirements such as the SAT or ACT tests.  Each year, we coordinate a study group and practice exams for students preparing for the TOEFL.
