I  have had the privilege of serving Green Mountain Valley School for nearly thirty years as a teacher, coach, theater director and headmaster. During this time I’ve been witness to the evolutionary process taking GMVS from its humble beginnings to one of the world’s leading athletic academies. Through these years it has adhered to a central philosophy: in order to graduate fine, upstanding young men and women, GMVS must take a holistic approach to developing the complete individual. By using athletic excellence as a metaphor for excellence in all things, GMVS students consistently excel in academics and the arts, and we are proud that our graduates have made careers as Olympians, CEO’s, lawyers, professors, actors and health care professionals. This is why we confidently and repeatedly say that GMVS is more than just a ski academy.

Each family comes to the point of exploring ski academy life from a unique perspective. Some know others who have attended academies or have even attended themselves, while others simply know that their young athlete cannot fully develop the necessary skills within the confines of a traditional public school. Some young racers have been brought up in families with long histories of ski racing; others have uncovered unexpected interests while training in a weekend or holiday program. What makes GMVS special is its ability to quickly acclimatize both new students and their families to the reality of ski academy life, regardless of their background.

GMVS takes student-athletes at their existing level, nurturing them through what is undoubtedly an exciting, rigorous and transformative high school experience.
