Jackson, Sam
Sam grew up outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and eventually went to college at Brown University where he played lacrosse. His team played in three consecutive NCAA tournaments and won the Ivy League title in 1991. After college Sam moved west to coach at Colorado College for a year before returning to Brown, where he helped Brown advance to the Final Four in the NCAA tournament while also playing professionally for the Boston Blazers of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League. Sam left the Brown lacrosse program in 1995 to work with a juvenile offenders program based in Nevada and California before returning east once more to teach at The Green Vale School on Long Island and then Episcopal High School in Virginia. In addition to teaching and coaching at GMVS, Sam has been coordinating service-learning projects here for many years, and has enjoyed taking groups of students on community service trips around the country and beyond. He lives in the Valley with his wife and gets out in his whitewater kayak or on backcountry skis whenever possible.
