December Term

December Term is Full for
the 2011-2012 Season

December Term (D-Term) is an intensive pre-season training program that runs the first 3 weeks of the month.  The goal of the program is to give athletes the opportunity to get lots of time on snow in the early season.  The focus is fundamentals with the addition of gate training as we move through the progression.  Athletes ski anywhere from 3.5 hours to 6 hours a day depending on training schedules and that day’s objectives.  Our primary training site is Sugarbush Resort - Mt. Ellen, but past training sites have included Lincoln Peak (Sugarbush), Mad River Glen, and Stoneham Resort (Quebec, Canada).

D-Term athletes are required to work with their schools ahead of time to get all of their schoolwork for the time they are here.  Part of our program includes proctored study halls to help athletes complete their work.  GMVS teachers are available to help with the tutoring of material if requested by a parent, athlete, or an athlete’s teacher.  We will work with their schools to get material sent back by due dates, and communicate with them if there are questions that we are unable to assist with.

In addition to skiing and schoolwork, athletes will participate in daily conditioning activities.  These activities are a mix that will push athletes to work on agility, core strength, speed and coordination.  They will also have regeneration periods where we will focus on stretching, and light spinning as a way of regenerating their bodies opposed to the more demanding conditioning sessions.

The 2011 dates for this program are November 27th thru December 16th.  D-Term athletes are chosen through an application process.  Applications for interested athletes are due by June 1st.  Notice of accepted athletes will be sent by June 15th.  Below are the two components of the D-Term application, the portion to be filled out by the athlete and a coach’s recommendation.  Applications will not be considered complete until the office of Junior Development receives both forms.

The cost of D-Term is $2,975.
