J3 Results

The J3s didn’t have to go far to race on Sunday, as they braved the cold and the hard snows on Inverness in a Northern Vermont Council slalom. In the boys’ race, you had to read far into the results sheet to find a non-GMVS racer, as the hosts proved tough, taking the top seven places. The parade was led by David Frisk ‘15, who came from behind to edge Christian Gallagher ‘15. Behind them was Patrick Gallagher ’16 in 3rd, with Jake Grabowski in 4th. Fifth place was earned by Sebastian Halpern-Reiss ‘16, while Fayston’s own Jack Despres ’17 finished 6th, ahead of Tim Gavett ’16. Also in the mix were Eli Swing ’15 (10th), Alex Alden ’15 (13th) and Jimmy Krupka ’16 (15th). In the girls’ race, Amelia Kaplan won the second run en route to taking 2nd place overall. Meg O’Shea was 4th, with Katie Campbell 9th and Nicole Leibundgut ’16 finishing 11th

The J3s will be in action this Thursday and Friday, as we host the State Super Gs. If you are around, come watch the action!

FIS & NORAM

The FIS calendar featured several National Junior races in the region, with the boys heading to Whiteface and the girls to Sunapee. In a GS in Sunapee, senior Susan Campbell had the best race of her career so far, finishing 13th, while sophomore Marlene Thoma moved up to 14th place from way back in 58th. On the Olympic slopes of Lake Placid, Drew Duffy ’13 opened the series with an impressive 3rd-place result. In the second race, Ryan Mooney turned heads by taking 3rd place, up 35 spots from where he started. Also notable was Jack Schibli, as the junior jumped 50 spots to take 17th, his second-best point result ever….after the result he had the day before!

Also in action were the collegians, as they did battle in the Dartmouth Carnival, then had a makeup GS at Burke, taking the place of a cancelled race at the UNH carnival in January. On the slopes of the Skiway, Middlebury’s Andrew McNealus ’08 was 7th in GS and 9th in slalom, while Danny Duffy ‘12, though missing the first page, showed he could tangle with the Big Boys in moving from 36th to 16th place. In the ladies’ race, Laura Rozinowicz ’09 of UNH took 4th, with teammate Marie-Elaine Lepine ’09 finishing 7th, just ahead of Anna Kikut ’11. Jackie Maier ’10 helped the host team with a 13th place. In the slalom, Kikut was 11th, with Lepine finishing 14th. Finally, the weekend ended with the GS in the Kingdom, and Marie-Elaine Lepine steamed to the win for the ‘host’ Wildcats, with Jackie Maier finishing 15th. For the guys, Danny Duffy capped his fine weekend with a 15th-place result.

Finally, in NorAm action in Aspen, Chris Frank took home a 4th and a 6th in Super G, along with 7th in downhill.
