Campus News

February 5, 2012 ~ There is plenty going on around here to keep folks entertained during the few moments they have of ‘down-time’.  This past week is no exception. On Wednesday, the kids were treated to a magic show, courtesy of Fitch Spencer (and his 16th birthday bash, hosted by his folks). Several of our students served as ‘assistants’ for the comedian/magician who did a great job of amazing us with his sleight of hand, as well as his gentle ribbing of his youthful helpers on stage. Out on the lower field, a group of students has begun to resurrect the hockey rink, and with the cold snap we are headed into we should have some great pond hockey in a few days.

Another athletic endeavor was the annual 2 on 2 basketball tournament held last Friday, which featured 10 teams vying for fame and glory in the gym. An account of the action, by GMVS Sports Anchor Andrea Harris:

“In front of a large audience, 10 brave teams began the 7th Annual GMVS Basketball Tournament, featuring the following squads:

- The A Team: Ali Price and Ana Taberna

-Topsiders: Graham Quisenberry and Scott Schibli

-The Blue Men: Chris Gonzalez and Tim Harris

-West Coast Warriors (just out of the van from Sugarloaf): Will Clifford and Max Stamler

After 3 rugged rounds of double elimination play, only two teams stood

-Clark Basement Boys: Charlie Raposo and Ryan Mooney

-Three Good Hands Ginnis: AJ Ginnis and little brother Max

-Quick and Quiet: Jack Schibli and Patrick Meynard

-Day Student Heroes: Geoff Pyke and Theo Morton

-The Legacies: Brendan Todd and Sebastian Gonin

- The Old Men: Julian Sheiner and Jack Kirby.

undefeated.  In a closely contested final battle, brothers Ginnis toppled The Old Men and walked away with first place…and the highly coveted GMVS tuning aprons.”

Finally, the culinary side of things has been covered in spades by Mike and his crew in the kitchen (witness the pictures of sushi night on Saturday, as well as the weekly brunch bonanza), and for the perfect way to relax after a weekend of racing, we offered the Super Bowl viewing party that Justin arranged for all fans on Sunday.

So, yes, the kids are moving fast over the snow, but when they need a diversion on campus, they have had lots to choose from!
