Sinclair Top in Nation

March 12, 2010- This past week the GMVS Nordic team took on the country’s best skiers in the Junior Olympics in Presque Isle, ME, and turned in a truly impressive performance. The week started off on the right foot, as senior David Sinclair outclassed the field to win the gold in the JI classic sprint race. He was not alone on the podium, though, as Hans Halvorsen ’12 turned on the jets to take third place. In the ladies’ race, the GMVS crew was also impressive, with Elena Lüthi ’12 powering up to 4th place, while senior Kristin Halvorsen finished a strong 7th.

The JOs continued with the 15K classic race, and Sinclair proved his win was no fluke, as he battled with Alaska’s best skier to take 2nd place in a 2-man race- the pair was over a minute ahead of the field. In the J2 girls’ race, Heidi Halvorsen ’13 finished 12th, while in the 10K JI girls’ race, senior Emily Stitt continued her outstanding season as she finished 15th. Even GMVS Nordic alumni got in the act: Middlebury College skier Dylan Grald ’09 took 6th place in the 15K OJ race.
