Elena Leüthi is a senior Nordic skier who came to GMVS three years ago from her hometown of Chateau-d’Oex, Switzerland, a hillside town of about 2000 people in the Swiss Alps. While life at GMVS is different for Elena than in Switzerland, she finds the landscape in Vermont’s Green Mountains comfortingly similar to the rural, mountain towns of home. She misses Swiss cheese and family, but says that being able to combine her pursuit of skiing excellence with school makes the sacrifices worthwhile.
As a senior, Elena like many of her peers, has college applications on her mind, but she is also feeling very excited about enjoying her final year at GMVS. She is pleased with the selection of senior classes she was able to choose from, and particularly looking forward to taking the school’s fabled Ancient Greeks. Elena is also excited about another good dorm experience, sharing a room for the third consecutive year with the same two roommates who have helped her establish a home away from home here in Vermont!
Elena is working toward a third Nordic Nationals appearance this year in Minnesota, and hopes to have another strong performance, especially in the sprint distances which are her specialty.
