Although senior Hans Halvorsen may be recognized as one of the nation’s top Nordic skiers in his age group—he is a New England Nordic Ski Association 2011-2012 Development Team Nominee—his coup de gras for the 2011 season was making the all-state lacrosse team, Division II. Hans showcased his superior playing by recording a hat trick or more in six games over the course of the season.
As GMVS lacrosse coach Sam Jackson said, “Hans is one of the best attackmen in the state.” Jackson extolled Halvorsen’s dodging skills, but said he was even better as a feed and was relentless “in riding the game.” Halvorsen’s natural athletic prowess is heightened by his ability to see the field and anticipate the “flow” of play. “He’s probably the smartest player in our program,” Jackson said.
Hans, as one of the top national junior skiers, participated in this year’s fall National Elite Group (NEG) camp at Lake Placid. Prior to that, Hans won the Sprint Simulation at the 2011 summer Regional Elite Group (REG) camp.
