GMVS Theater Program
"Theater s a wonderful community building device; it is truly all-for-one and one-for-all. That part of what happens each year is great, but also theater is consistent with the GMVS philosophy: it pushes kids out of their comfort zone."
Dave Gavett
Headmaster
1978 was the first year GMVS began performing an annual musical. As the cast prepared their roles for Godspell that year, they probably did not imagine they were paving the way for one of the school's most cherished and long- standing traditions. Headmaster Dave Gavett, who started the theater program and has directed all but three of the performances, says his goal from the beginning has been to challenge students to do things they might not normally do.
Forty years later, GMVS continues to provide a unique opportunity for students to participate in the theater and arts. The fall theater production combines the talents of students of all ages and abilities. While many students act, dance and sing, others participate in lighting and sound, set design and construction, costumes, and stage crew.
